While we’re young we don’t appreciate our health as we should. During the first decades of our lives, we could easily do something repeatedly, seemingly harmless at the start. But harmful to our health when we get older. Keeping your health in good condition is an investment every one of us should make.
One of the most influential factors for our health condition is the quality of the air we are breathing. All of us are aware of some grim statistics showing how polluted air can have a negative impact on our lifespan. However, the body seldom has the ability to show us that something is not right as an effect of air pollution until is too late. Usually, the toxins from the polluted air tend to develop various, tumors and cancers in our bodies, so it’s crucial to avoid or limit such exposure.
Luckily, today there are hundreds of air purifiers on the market (most claim they have the best smart air purifier), whose main purpose is to filter the air we breathe in our homes. Yes, don’t be fooled for a second that the indoor air is intact from the outside pollutants.

GermGuardian CDAP4500BCA WiFi Smart 4-in-1 Air Cleaning System – Our pick
The GermGuardian smart air purifier offers a HEPA air filtration to reduce exposure to indoor asthma triggers. It’s more than just a filter. The UV-C light kills the germs, while the charcoal filter captures all odors. The device is lightweight and great to use in small or medium-sized rooms. The best part is that the simple app allows you to monitor the air quality in your home regardless of your location.
Features:
- Works with Alexa and Google Assistant
- Alerts you when the filter needs replacement
- Air quality monitor with the indicator display
- Traps allergens and fights germs
- The timer feature
- The simple stylish design
It comes with SmartAQM, an Air Quality Monitor detecting the number of particles in the air and automatically adjusts the speed to optimize room air quality when in auto mode. The Guardian Technologies App will alert you when to replace your filter or bulb. There are five speeds, including a low speed that runs really quiet and saves energy.
The setup is amazingly easy. The filters are already installed, so you solely need to download the app and get going. The GermGuardian smart air purifier is compatible with Amazon Alexa for voice control (sold separately).
The main job of this little device is to reduce spreading of germs by eliminating the microscopic airborne bacteria, viruses and mold spores, once they pass through the UV-C light. The best part is that the filters need to be changed every 6-8 months!
If you are a little skeptical about the numbers displayed, you can conduct a little home experiment. Try taking note of the numbers displayed in a normal indoor and then spray some hairspray in the room with the device. You’ll see that the numbers will change, triggering the device fan.
According to the opinions of some, the green bright light at the front may be an issue since it does not turn off, making it inconvenient to place it in a bedroom. Some complained of a high-pitched noise after a few months of use.
Out of the 3 devices reviewed here, this is the best smart air purifier.
AirSense Smart Air Quality Monitor & Ion Purifier
Airsense is an elegant smart air purifier and air monitor. It has one of the best air sensors in place, ready to inform you about the air quality, temperature, and humidity. The monitor will keep you alerted of any VOC (volatile organic compounds), like carbon monoxide, ammonia, methane or similar pollutants. Additionally, it provides a plethora of life improving Suggestions, helping you to take even better care of your family. This best air purifier has an integrated light indicator which changes when the quality of air is changed.
Features:
- VOC detectors such as Carbon Monoxide, Methane, and others
- Temp and humidity detector
- Two-way audio speakers
- Sends smart alerts to your phone
- Sends the tips and suggestions on how to improve your air quality
The Airsense comes with a free app called iBaby Care to control the monitor, compatible with both iOS and Android devices. The installing of AirSense is really easy. Once it connects to your home wifi network, just download the iBaby Care app and follow the screen instructions.
This best smart air purifier is especially convenient for families with babies or young children, or a family member with a chronic disease. All you need to do is to track the temperature and air humidity in order to eliminate any harmful particles.
This smart air purifier provides a digital history graph for VOCs, humidity, and temperature, thus allowing you to compare the received data.
The monitor is pre-set with four different lights to show the air quality: green, yellow, orange, and red. If a change in the air occurs, the lights on the monitor will change as well, sending you an alert on your smartphone. I use it in the living room for now, since this is the most frequent space of the house. It really helps in keeping the air clean where I most need it.
This AirSense air purifier is a pretty cool device, however, there’s a flaw that may be of importance for some of you. It was found in more than several occasions that the device cannot connect to your wifi network if your password contains anything else than letters. This can be a bit of a drag, since you need to change the password, in order to make it work. Having this in mind, you may face issues if you wish to buy one for your office, for example. If you consider this to be an issue in your case, try to find a different product.
Holmes Smart Wifi-Enabled WeMo True-HEPA Premium Air Purifier, WAP532
The Holmes smart air purifier helps you keep the indoor air pure regardless of where you are. It works via WeMo app and you can control the settings through your smart device. The setup is simple and the WeMo app works with a bunch of other WeMo appliances. Just plug this air purifier into an outlet and download the WeMo App to your smartphone. The WeMo app will keep you connected to the device via Wi-Fi, 3G, or 4G networks.
Features:
- Works via WeMo app
- Simple setup
- 2 HEPA filters and 2 odor reducing carbon filters
- Very quiet
This Holmes air purifier is shown to remove up to 99.97% of airborne allergens. It comes installed with 2 HEPA Filters and 2 odor reducing carbon filters.
You can use it to set a weekly schedule, receive air quality status or get alerted when to adjust the settings. It’s really one of the quietest devices ever designed, collecting even the tiniest particles, like pollen, dust, mold, pet dander or smoke. One of the coolest features is that it provides notifications for maintenance, meaning that you won’t need to routinely check if the filter is full.
You can also use the 3-speed settings to adjust this smart air purifier to operate on low, medium and high, while the optional ionizer will bind the negative ions with the harmful particles, thus removing them as well.
I have to say that, this purifier is not the best smart air purifier, but is quiet, simple, and made a positive difference in the household. It operates flawlessly in larger spaces too. The best way to test it is perhaps leaving it in the garage during the night on auto Slow. You’ll be amazed by the air difference in the morning.
There are few flaws here and there as well. Often, when in auto mode, the light may indicate that the air is clean regardless of where you move it. There were also few complaints about the filters being loose because if you move it, the WeMo app cannot detect them and you’ll physically need to place them back. For a device costing nearly $200, this cannot be happening.
Conclusion
When it comes to keeping your family’s health safe, there’s no price. Thanks to such reviews, however, we can put a price on the product by the features it offers. Our aim was to find the best smart air purifier.
The AirSense sure is a pricey elegantly designed best smart air purifier, very suitable for your home. The only negative trait would be having a solely letter supported password for your wifi, or it cannot connect. Other than this inconvenience, it works really well.
The Holmes smart air purifier offers a quick schedule setting and remote control of your air purifying settings via the WeMo app. It’s easy to use and amazingly quiet, however, sometimes the filters get loose and the app cannot detect them. It’s not really cheap, but it works just fine.
The GermGuardian, on the other hand, costs nearly as much as the rest (at a regular price anyway) but has one distinct feature – an integrated UV-C light, instantly eliminating germs as they pass through it. There were comments on the simple design and front green light that would not turn off.
Considering the price and the features, our favorite is the air purifier by GermGuardian.
Regardless of your choice, it pretty much depends on what you’re looking to achieve and how much you’re willing to spend.
